Rescue Remedy + Yarrow Essence
Five Flower Formula/Rescue Remedy
Typical to my menstrual cycle, I was experiencing some pms anxiety. I decided I really should try Bach’s five flower essence or the “rescue remedy” as it is marketed by Nelson’s. It’s a cornerstone flower essence blend, one that is the gateway essence for many people. The five flowers are rock rose, star of Bethlehem, impatiens, cherry plum and clematis, and the blend was created by Dr. Bach during the 1930’s as a medicine for stress, emergencies, and trauma.
Instead of the 4x of day routine for consuming flower essences that is often suggested, I decided I’d use it as often as felt good for my body, as I figured I’m carrying with me many years of pent up anxiety and trauma. Flower energy is also typically (but definitely not always!) softer and more gentle than mushroom or stone energy, so it intuitively felt right to work with it more often.
Taking it maybe 10x a day or more, I immediately began to notice myself growing calmer, less frantic feeling, and diminished signs of the usual pms anxiety. I added some yarrow to my blend as it seems like an integral medicine for this time and for sensitive folks. Yarrow helps to remove/block energy that is not healthy or one’s own. It can help with interacting with technology and, as a well known wound healer, it helps bind together our energetic bodies without preventing healthy energy from continuing to flow in. I definitely missed the yarrow when I just took the five flower on it’s own, like my protective shield just wasn’t quite there.
One instance where I felt this formula’s magic was during a tense family conversation. I felt myself taking on another family members energy: I felt my heart rate increasing and was feeling overly emotional. I went to the bathroom for a reprieve and to take some of my essence and within a few minutes felt calm and like myself enough to re-enter the room.
A day or two later I was experiencing heightened anxiety. I was taking the essence and it helped, and yet I needed a bit more grounding, so I took a mushroom micro dose. It felt like the two medicines worked really well in tandem and the rest of the day was pretty smooth. The micro dose helped with a stronger acute type of anxiety whereas the flower essences seem to help more with minor flare up’s and support in the long run.
A side story on yarrow:
My sister and I went to a rock and gemstone show and both felt giddy upon entering the space. Someone whom I chatted with in a previous year told me not to touch too many stones because we’d get… we’ll stoned :p but really, stones carry energy so that can be a lot for the body to handle!
We were both feeling so ungrounded when I remembered I had brought my yarrow essence just for this purpose. We both took a few rounds of several drops a few minutes apart and we both began to simmer down.
