Drawing for Beginners: Exploring Edges, Space, and Light

  • McNally Robinson 1120 Grant Avenue Winnipeg, MB, R3M 2A6 Canada (map)

This five-week class is designed for adult beginners eager to develop their drawing skills through an exploratory approach. We'll focus on unlocking the creativity of the right side of the brain by engaging in drawing exercises that build awareness of edges, space, relationships, and the interplay of light and shadow. Through a series of drawing games, still life studies, and drawing exercises, you'll learn to observe the world more deeply and translate that vision onto the page. All materials included.

Dive into:

  • Drawing from Observation: Techniques to support you in drawing what you really see over what the brain thinks it sees

  • Negative Space: Learning to notice the "empty" spaces to define forms more clearly

  • Line and Contour Drawing: Developing confidence in creating expressive, clear lines

  • Light and Shadow: Understanding how light affects form and how to illustrate depth and dimension

  • Perspective: Learning basic perspective principles to create the illusion of three-dimensional space
