The Belladonna Mask

Dark and mysterious, the inspiration behind this mask is a beautiful and poisonous plant Belladonna, with jewel-like glistening berries, and purple bell shaped flowers. Belladonna is highly toxic, yet in small and properly administered dosages, can be healing. There is something so captivating about her duality to heal and to kill.

“Dosis sola facit venenum”; the dose makes the poison.

During the Renaissance, the women in the Venetian court would use the juice from belladonna fruit as eye drops, causing their pupils to expand, which was considered more captivating. Similarly, belladonna has been used to treat eye disorders, as well as hot flashes, and compounds extracted from Belladonna are used in an array of contemporary pharmaceuticals.

“Bella donna” means “fair lady”, and she is a strong energy, full of polarities.

The Belladonna mask will be available for purchase on Oct.1 when the full art drop occurs!

The mask is one size fits many, as the back sizing is adjustable. It is a one of a kind piece made with black cotton yarn and lace.
