Using Social Media to Inspire

I am someone who has struggled with how people perceive me. I get insecure and wrapped up in negative stories so easily, and social media can at times foster these powerfully negative thoughts.

Part of the gift of these insecurities is that I’m learning to love myself deeply.  I know social media is difficult for a lot of people and that is partially due to the fact that we are buying into narratives that are built into these platforms. Unhelpful narratives like your worth is equal to your number of likes or followers, follow a prescribed formula of what and when to post in order to be successful, and never be satisfied because more is always better.

If I was introduced to these platforms as a kid, I would have absolutely loved the creativity of social media. The ease in which you can make beautiful posts and videos, find any music you want to accompany it, and connect to other like-minded people would have been so appealing. I think there are beautiful things about social media which is part of why so many people continue to use it.

Can we use these platforms in ways that better serves us to inspire one another? The way we approach and experience social media affects everyone else who uses it. If everyone is feeling anxious online, then as a collective we’ll just spiral each other out even more.

The only thing that spreads faster than fear is inspiration. Let’s inspire one another to interact with these platforms in more holistic ways.

Connect to how you feel and post only when you want to

You are worthy no matter how many likes/followers you have

Your ability to generate wealth is not connected to the number of likes or followers you have

Expressing your true nature is how you will thrive, rather than following a prescribed formula

You have enough followers and likes. More is just more and is irrelevant to your self worth

Look inwards rather than out. Notice the love, compassion and worthiness that exists within you

Allow yourself and how you express yourself to change - no need to stay “on brand”

Embrace all that you are and do what feels right for you
